The Lennox Head Community Tree Planting took place on Friday, 5 June 2015 to coincide with World Environment Day. Thirteen years on from the event inception, the event hosts, GeoLINK and Ballina Shire Council, continue to be amazed and encouraged by the overwhelming support from the local community. Thanks to them, we are getting closer to our aim of restoring littoral rainforest back to the Lennox Headland and creating a valuable resource for future generations!
This day of positive environmental action was blessed with ideal planting conditions – pleasantly warm, with a light breeze and clear blue skies. A record breaking 178 volunteers attended the event and included Year 3 students from Lennox Head Public School and the Xavier Catholic College Leos Club. The volunteers planted some 1,000 seedlings, followed by application of 3,000 litres of water and 170 bales of mulch. And this was all done in the record breaking time of 2 hours…..
Thanks to the event’s generous and long-standing sponsors, whose support has been integral to the success of every planting day held over the last 13 years: IGA, Lennox Head Gelato & Coffee Co., Sweet Bangalow Pork, Daley Gourmet Meats, Jordans, Lennox Head Butchery & Deli, Lois Buckett Real Estate, Lennox Landcare, Envite, Green Army, OEH-NPWS and Local Land Services. Big thanks also goes to Lennox Head Lions for volunteering their time and BBQ – they rolled out 150 sausages, 36 vegie patties, 5 kgs of onion; all washed down with 3 tubs of luscious locally made gelato!
