Skennars Head Local Environmental Study (LES)
Client: Ballina Shire Council
Ballina Shire council engaged GeoLINK to prepare a Local Environmental Study to determine the urban capability of a 75 ha parcel of coastal land at Skennars Head, located between Lennox Head and East Ballina.
The engagement followed a request made to Council to rezone the land to allow the development of a new urban community, involving a range of housing densities, a small neighbourhood centre, and areas of environmental protection.
Key issues included visual impacts – the site is adjacent to the main local connector road and directly across from the beach; ecological value – a number of important species and vegetation communities are found at the site; access / traffic; servicing; and social impact.
GeoLINK’s multi-disciplinary team reviewed the various technical reports submitted by the development proponents, and undertook the required assessment to enable a clear recommendation to Council regarding the future of the land.
