GeoLINK provides successful LFA services for challenging rectification works.
What is Landscape Function Analysis (LFA)?
LFA is a field-based method for monitoring the ecological health and functionality of a landscape at the hillslope scale. Designed to be a relatively quick procedure, LFA uses indicators of soil stability, water infiltration, and nutrient cycling to provide information about a site’s biogeochemical processes. LFA is useful for sites needing environmental rehabilitation, as it helps assess progress over time.
Who can undertake LFA?
Effective LFA needs expertise in environmental science and ecology, as well as training in field monitoring techniques. GeoLINK brings professional knowledge, experience, and reliability to LFA monitoring tasks. With expertise in assessing environmental indicators and interpreting results, GeoLINK ensures LFA data is not only accurate but actionable, providing recommendations tailored to the specific needs of the project site.
Success at the Bogong Slip Rectification Works
The Bogong Slip Rectification Works, delivered by Whelans Group on behalf of Big Build Roads Victoria, is a good example of LFA being applied successfully. Located at the Bogong High Plains Road landslip, this project aimed to remediate a landslip area and establish native vegetation. GeoLINK’s Environmental Engineer, Pat Sloan, is undertaking LFA monitoring, in line with the Bogong Landslip Revegetation Management Plan.
The site posed unique challenges, including steep terrain and conditions requiring tailored approaches to revegetation. LFA has been an effective method in tracking the progress of native vegetation establishment. Monitoring scores for stability, infiltration and nutrient cycling, along with rapid assessment data, have shown encouraging results.
LFA provided information of site functionality, ensuring improvements are measurable and now there are signs of native vegetation re-establishing. The process is highlighting areas that needed more attention, enabling targeted works for long-term ecological stability.
GeoLINK’s LFA solutions for clients
GeoLINK offers comprehensive LFA monitoring services to clients. Our approach to LFA focuses on accuracy and adaptability. Environmental monitoring is undertaken, with scoring results focused on the three key areas of:
These are complemented by rapid assessment data and analysis, providing clients with reliable and actionable steps to successfully progress their project.
GeoLINK supports clients to achieve their project goals. The Bogong Slip Rectification Works site will continue to benefit from an LFA approach and the expertise GeoLINK brings to complex environmental restoration projects.
