Ensuring a sustainable and efficient Agricultural Industry
Australia’s agricultural industry is a cornerstone of the nation’s economy, contributing to both domestic food supply and international exports. However, aspects of this sector generate considerable volumes of wastewater, which, if not properly managed, can lead to environmental concerns and public health issues. Wastewater management services play a pivotal role in minimising these risks, ensuring that agricultural practices remain sustainable and efficient.
Why is Agricultural wastewater management important?
Effective wastewater management is crucial for several reasons.

GeoLINK Case Study
GeoLINK was recently engaged by Manana Pastoral to address some issues that existed with the effluent management system at their dairy at Raleigh on the Mid North Coast of NSW.
The dairy site had some operational issues that were resulting in the malfunction of their effluent management system. The issue had been identified as a potential environmental concern by the local council and Manana Pastoral requested GeoLINK’s qualified Environmental Science and Engineering team to review the site issues.
A review of the site’s operational history and existing infrastructure identified that the existing effluent management system was more than suitable for the capacity of the site operations. The issue identified on site was the result of site management concerns, which can be easily rectified. The matter was resolved with Council and the site management issues have been rectified providing a positive outcome for the dairy business, the environment, and the community.
Our client was pleased with the outcome:
“We contacted GeoLINK in April 2024, to assist us with preparing a Report for Council. When we explained our requirements to Simon, he referred us to GeoLINK’s Senior Environmental Scientist, based in Armidale. Lauren was intuitive, and deftly considered and assessed our situation. Council were satisfied with the submitted Report, and our matter was resolved by July 2024. Thank you for assisting us GeoLINK, we recommend your services highly.”

Wastewater methods and techniques for the future
Despite advancements in wastewater management, challenges remain. These include the high costs of treatment technologies, the cost associated with constructing runoff management controls, and the need for ongoing maintenance and monitoring. Future research and development are the way forward to address these challenges and improve the efficiency, effectiveness and cost of wastewater management practices.
Effective wastewater management requires cooperation between government, industry stakeholders, and research providers.
